Congressman Steve Scalise To Chair 64th
Washington DC Mardi Gras festivities

The Executive Committee of the Mystick Krewe of Louisianians has selected Congressman Steve Scalise, representing Louisiana's First Congressional District, as Chairman of the 64th Washington DC Mardi Gras festivities. As part of his honorary duties, he has chosen Tommy S. Cvitanovich as King and Jayne Michon Champagne as Queen. In addition, Congressman Scalise has picked, as the theme for the event, “200 Years With Oysters and Beers” thus celebrating the 200th anniversary of Louisiana's Statehood as well as its unique hospitality related history. Considering the King's occupation as one of the premier restaurateurs in Louisiana noted for his charbroiled oysters and the Queen's family who own Champagne Beverage the Budweiser distributor for New Orleans, the theme is quite appropriate.

Scalise was born in New Orleans on October 6, 1965. A native of Jefferson Parish, Scalise grew up in Metairie. He attended Archbishop Rummel High School where he wrestled and played tennis for the Raiders. Scalise is a graduate of Louisiana State University where he earned a Computer Science degree and minored in Political Science. Scalise started his political career at LSU, twice being elected Speaker of the Student Government Association. Scalise is married to the former Jennifer Letulle and they have two children, Madison Carol and Harrison Joseph.

In Congress, Scalise serves as a Deputy Republican Whip, and serves on the powerful House Energy and Commerce Committee. Steve is known as a strong conservative who fights for the principles of fiscal discipline, lower taxes and common-sense rules to create jobs, an "all-of-the-above" national energy policy, a strong national defense and American values.

He is proud to be this year's chairman and looks forward to showcasing Louisiana’s unique culture and character to the nation’s capitol in February.
